After graduating from the Bodensee-Gymnasium in Lindau / Lake Constance with the main elective subjects art & music, Nikolaus v. Wrangel in Munich law and also took courses at the Academy of Fine Arts, courses in the "Free Art" segment, including stage design and costumes.
After that, Nikolaus v. Wrangel worked in the fashion industry for years, designed his own collections and sold high-quality fashion in his own shop. At the same time, Nikolaus v. Wrangel paint again. He drew on the experiences from high school and art college and made a new mix out of it. The mix consisted of the classic techniques that he had learned in high school and the new, large-scale, decorative painting styles of the stage sets that the art academy had taught him.
In the process of creating new images, the approach is similar to designing fashion, creating and inventing new shapes in conjunction with a mix of unusual color combinations. During this phase, the first large-format neo-expressionist works were created, which over time became sometimes delicate and mystical and sometimes shrill and plastic or striking. The pictures are acrylic mix paintings, i.e. acrylic paint with charcoal, oil pastel, oil paint, pencil, spray paint and many other artistic materials.
The first figurative works were added later, in pastel or bold colors, but abstracted, distorted or even only hinted at, a challenge to the left and right hemispheres of the brain, to make something concrete out of it or to want to see it.
The fascination with the creation of a new picture is that Nikolaus v.Wrangel feels completely free and carefree and can start unabashedly. From this moment on, the temperament is allowed everything, in addition, spontaneity, courage and creativity are required.
